Proverb of the day:  It may be an old saw that
"practise makes perfect", but even a saw
    needs practise (L. Hansen, 2012)
As a humorous project, borrow your dad's saw
(make sure its not rusty!) and make a video
playing your favorite song.  Post it to my Twitter site
so that we can all laugh together.
In the hyperlink, Additional Resources, there is
a resource slide that features a distant cousin
to the musical saw.  How are the two instruments
connected throughout the evolution of music history?

Links for Contemporary Performers

The following are links that feature
some contemporary musical saw per-
formers and music.  Provide some
examples of how the musical saw may
have influenced other forms of music
like new age.

"O mio babbino caro"

The following are three interpretations of "O mio babbino
caro" ("Oh My Beloved Father"), a soprano aria from the
opera Gianni Schicchi (1918), by Giacomo Puccini.  From
a musical perspective (i.e., timbre, tempi, etc.), discuss why
you favor one over the others.

The History of the Musical Saw

No one really knows the actual history and development
of the musical saw.  Some historians believe it may date
back to the 1700s though it didn't gain popularity until
the early 1900s.  The music saw, despite its early popu-
larity, is still a relatively unknown musical instrument
today.  In addition to sourcing the links I provided in my
presentation linked below, discover other sources on the
evolution of the musical saw and its early development.
